Passengers waiting for bus rides at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) will no longer spend the night on for-rent-cots starting next year.
A 60-room hostel is set to operate next year inside the city’s lone bus terminal at Ecoland in Matina, according to Alejandro Alilin, DCOTT manager.
The hostel will start operation as soon as the Davao City Council approves an ordinance pegging room rates, said Alilin.
The DCOTT hostel is the newest economic enterprise of the Davao City government aiming to add more revenues to DCOTT and for convenience of outbound passengers. Due to volatile situations in certain parts of Mindanao, DCOTT does not dispatch buses at night.
Currently, passengers spend nights on rented cots spread on open spaces at the roofed terminal as they wait for early morning departures.
DCOTT, at the vortex of bus routes from Central and Northern Mindanao, caters to hundreds of passengers daily. (CIO-LV/JG/ra/sb)
