Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has frowned on a former youth representative in the Davao City Council set to be installed to represent the Indigenous People (IP) in the legislative body.
Bai Halila Sudagar, he said, had already a stint in government.
Sudagar sat in the City Council from 2007 to 2010 as sectoral representative of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).
Sudagar has already served the City Council. She should not monopolize the position. I will give the position to another leader of the Indigenous People, Duterte said after Sudagar was elected in a congress of tribal leaders.
Although Sudagar won under a process of election by tribal leaders, a city ordinance gives the mayor the power to approve the appointment of the IP representative.
Sudagar was to take over the vacancy left by Berino Mamboo of the Ata Tribe whose term expired last month.
Sudagar, of the Kagan Tribe, this week won over 8 other aspirants in a selection process participated in 373 Baragwas (tribal leaders) of the Kagan Councils of Elders.
