THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Davao Region is intensifying its campaign against tax evaders.

Under the BIR Oplan Kandado Program, according to regional director Glen Geraldino, 52 business establishments are under investigation for tax evasion. Last week, 12 branches of Jaltan Inc., were closed down by BIR personnel. The Davao City-based company with business throughout the region reportedly has unpaid tax obligation of more than P3 million. The company owned by Alfredo Tan, is well-known for its chain of restaurants.

Surveillance will be ongoing all over the region,” Geraldino  said.
