KALOY BELLO IS RODY’S BET IN THIRD DISTRICT CONGRESS RACE

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is sticking to a previous agreement that he would endorse Councilor Kaloy Bello in the Third District Congress race in the 2016 election with incumbent Congressman Isidro Ungab wrapping up his third and final term.

Duterte said in picking Kaloy Bello, he was honoring an agreement with the councilor’s father, 1-BAP party-list Congressman Silvestre “Bebot” Bello, his close friend since college.

The agreement: Kaloy Bello would be the official candidate, after Ungab ends his term, of the ruling local party Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod headed by Duterte.

The endorsement of Duterte for Bello as Hugpong bet comes as a big blow to Ungab who is grooming his brother, Alberto, for the congressional post. Bello and Ungab are Hugpong psrtymen; another Hugpong member, Councilor Bernie Al-ag, is said to be eyeing the seat.

“Bebot is my friend. May pinagsamahan kami,” he said.

I will endorse Kaloy Bello in keeping with that promise, said Duterte in a report in Edge Davao. Duterte was interviewed after the release by the New People’s Army (NPA) on June 13 of captured trooper Khen Subere in Kiamba, Sarangani.

Duterte said he had in past elections prevailed upon the elder Bello who planned to field Kaloy Bello in the congressional race.

I told him before that Kaloy should give way and allow Ungab to run first, Duterte said.

But notwithstanding his endorsement for Bello, Duterte in a subsequent interview, said he would let the party decide who would be the official candidates for the coming elections.
