Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has made a monumental slip that bared that, after all, he is running for President in 2016.
Duterte said Pasig Representative Roman Romulo has done great things for education and should be in the Senate.
Romulo is chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Higher and Technical Education.
“I will adopt you” for senator, Duterte told Romulo in the Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa television program on Sunday, June 28.
So you have now your senatorial line-up, mayor? Who are your senators, mayor?” Geraldine Tiu, anchor of the show, was quick to ask Duterte.
The question was met with a smile by Duterte, who also quickly bailed himself out of the situation.
I take back my statement, said Duterte to avoid answering Tiu’s query about his senatorial line-up.
In the Top 3 of surveys for presidential preference, Duterte continously denies that he is running for President.
In the television program on ABS/CBN-Davao, he repeated for the nth time that he is not joining the presidential derby in 2016.
Romulo guested in the show at the sideline of his consultation and meetings with administrators of state colleges and universities in Davao City.
The administration Liberal Party recently announced that Romulo, son of the late statesman-diplomat and Foreign Affairs Secretary Carlos P. Romulo, is in the shortlist of the administration party’s senatorial line-up.
It is time for you to be a senator, said Duterte. “I will adopt you,”he said.
In the program, Romulo, who is on his last term, as Pasig representative, lengthily discussed the work of his committee, House bills on education and government programs on higher and technical education and scholarships.
For his work as a member of the House of Representatives, Romulo was recently honored as among the “2015 Men Who Matter” of PeopleAsia magazine.
