After previous failed attempt to snatch the Second District congressional seat, businesswoman Joji Ilagan Bian is staying off politics in the 2016 election, sources close to her family said.
But the former chairman of the Mindanao Business Council said her family will be fielding daughter Nicole Bian to seek a seat in the Davao City Council representing the Second District, said the sources.
The elder Bian said while to be in public service as congresswoman was elusive to her, the family’s intent to serve in government is an overwhelming dream.
The sources said Nicole, a top executive of the family’s tech-voc school JIB Career Center, would pursue Bian’s unaccomplished mission for the family to contribute to the over-all development of the city.
Bian and husband George are among well-known personalities in Davao City’s Fil-Chinese community.
Nicole Bian’s candidacy is being supported by Young Entrepreneurs Society of Davao (YES Davao), a group of young men and women in business.
Being business-oriented, YES Davao has picked Nicole Bian whose innovative ideas could be translated into economic legislation that would further spur the city’s economic development, said Rose Yee, YES Davao interim president.
We believe that it is time for young people in business to share their talent for the benefit of the city and the Dabawenyos, said Yee. This we could do better if one of us will be in the city council, she said.
