UNGABDavao City Third District Rep. Isidro Ungab is bolting out of the administration Liberal Party to support the presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

The LP is fielding former Interior secretary Mar Roxas.

The move of Ungab, an LP stalwart and chairman of the House appropriations committee, follows the path taken by other Dabawenyos who crossed party lines to pitch camp with Duterte, who is now leading in surveys by Social Weather Station (SWS).

Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario, LP’s provincial chief, and his son, Anthony, the incumbent First District congressman who is running for governor, earlier announced their support for Duterte,

Former Davao del Norte congressman Antonio Floirendo Jr., identified with Vice President Jejomar Binay, standard bearer of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), was also earlier reported to have joined the camp of Duterte, who is running under the banner of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP).

First Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles, chairman of the House committee on labor, has also expressed support for Duterte even as his party, National Unity Party (NUP, has yet to decide on who to support in the coming polls. Nograles is the son of former House Speaker Prospero Nograles, who had challenged the Duterte leadership in three failed bids in the mayoral races in the past.

It is not known if Second District Rep. Mylene Garcia-Albano would be supporting Duterte; her husband Rep. Rodolfo Albano of Isabela is a stalwart of the LP.

Garcia-Albano and the younger Nograles are running for reelection without opponents.

In the Third District congressional race, Alberto Ungab, brother of Rep. Ungab who is winding up his last and third term, is contesting the post with City Councilor Kaloy Bello. Both are running under the banner of the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, the local party founded by Duterte.

Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan of Gabriela party-list, has joined the Hugpong, to run for a seat in the Davao City Council.

Other party-list legislators  expected to join the Duterte bandwagon are Carlos Zarate of Bayan Muna; Mariano Piamonte of A-Teacher; and Silvestre Bello III of 1-BAP.
