Int’l women cagefest in Davao City

bball2THE 3rd Discovery International Women’s Basketball Invitational (DWBI) unfurled on February 19 and will run up to February  22 at the Almendras Gymnasium Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC).

The cagefest, a bi-annual event organized by Discovery Suites, will be participated in by Discovery Perlas (Philippines), Turkmenistan and Papua New Guinea with two teams of 23 players, said Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) athletics director Noli Ayo and Mark Samante at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum.

Samante said other activities include basketball clinics for kids, coffee sessions with Davao’s female coaches and sports leaders and enthusiasts.

The coffee session with female coaches, leaders and enthusiasts is part of the advocacy of Discovery which is to help empower and grow women leadership in sports. The organizers want to instill a genuine women leadership presence in sports in our country will truly advocate for fair genuine and sincere reforms for female atheletes in their respective sports, according to Ayo.

The past two DWBI events were held in Bacolod City in 2011 and Naga City in 2013. Other countries that took part in the past two DWBI events were China, Qatar, Thailand, Singapore and Australia. (KRP-SunStar)
