Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte set to announce 2016 presidential bid

slow to actDavao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is as excited as those pushing him to run for President in 2016 but survey results must show him closing the gap between him and two other top contenders before making an announcement that would not frustrate those who wished him to sit in Malacanang.

This will come anytime in June after results of the latest survey of Social Weather Stations (SWS)  and Pulse Asia, said aides of the mayor who asked they not be named.

The polling outfits had Duterte behind front runner Vice President Jejomar Binay and second placer Senator Grace Poe in their latest surveys for presidential preference.

Anytime in June, SWS and Pulse Asia were expected to announce results of their survey in May.

Analysts say the May survey results would have Binay’s rating crashing down as charges of massive corruption take a heavy toll on his public image.

Poe was expected to inch her way into the top rung of the ratings to dislodge Binay but Duterte was also expected to surge ahead a hair breathe away from the neophyte Senator and the top slot.

The day of reckoning will be after the survey results, said the Duterte aides.
